Miami - Day #4

Hello from Florida – Day #4

Day #2 of the conference went pretty well.  There were a few hiccups with equipment, but overall it was okay.

We ate lunch at Tony Roma’s (which is where we ate dinner 2 nights ago – the ribs were great!).  I had the pulled pork bbq sandwich (or sammich) for lunch.  Mm-mm-good!

For dinner tonite we went to a place called Duffy’s.  It was recommended by some of the hotel crew.  It’s a sports bar that gave me total sensory overload.  There were about 8,000 tvs on the wall, with about 10 different programs playing – hockey, rugby, soccer, basketball, another basketball game, ESPN, the list goes on.  Okay – there weren’t actually 8,000 tvs, but there had to be 100 of them.  The food was good, and it was on the water – not the ocean but on the Intercoastal Waterway – so it was an enjoyable time.

We had a bit of a funny incident while there.  Since it was too far to walk, and we didn’t know the way, we grabbed a taxi at the hotel and rode to the restaurant (which was a little scary – each time we hit a bump it sounded like the wheel was going to fall off).  After eating, we walked out the front door, looked around, looked at each other and said (at almost the same time), "uh . . . how do we get back?"  We had to walk into the front desk, “uh, due to a lack of planning, we don’t have a ride back.  Can you get us a taxi?”  The guy was happy to get us a taxi and we had a most pleasant ride back to our hotel with a Haitian driver.  He was very nice and eager to tell us about Haiti and what’s going on there.

After getting back to the hotel, we had an ice cream craving.  Unfortunately, there were no ice cream shops to be found.  But! – there was a grocery store, so we bought a few $1.00 mini-tubs of varying flavors, and had a small ice cream treat.

I had the oddest thing happen while in my room tonite.  My cell phone rang.  It was a telemarketer trying to sell me a timeshare (in Florida, no less), midway through his schpeel, there is a knock on my door.  It’s one of the housekeepers, she asked, “would you like our turn down service?”  Sure!  So I handed her my phone.  I LOVE this place, it is truly full service.  Some people have told me that I am mis-understanding what the "turn down" service is . . . hmm.

That’s about it for now.  Have a super day.  Be well.
